Who We Are...
Doggy
Business
is owned and operated
by Doug Duncan and Meredith Wilson. In
addition to the dogs and cats we've each had in our own lives, we've been
taking care of dogs professionally for more than 6 years. We are both
certified in Pet First Aid and Pet CPR.
Doug
grew up in Yakima, WA and his family always
had dogs. He started working with dogs professionally as a dog walker in
Seattle, WA, and has worked with dogs professionally for over six years. He
is a member of the
Association of Pet Dog Trainers,
a national professional organization for dog trainers. Doug attends
conferences and seminars throughout the year on dog behavior, health and
training.
Doug graduated from the
San Francisco SPCA's Academy
for Dog Trainers, and holds a
Certificate in Training and Counseling from the Academy. The Academy's
main instructors are Jean Donaldson, author of The Culture Clash
and Dogs are from Neptune and Janis Bradley, a clicker trainer
and educator with 20 years in curriculum design and counseling. Janis is the
author of Dogs Bite: But Balloons and Slippers are More Dangerous.
Guest lecturers to date have included Ian Dunbar, Steve White, Morgan
Spector, Rita Martinez and Pamela Reid.
All techniques taught at the Academy are both
dog and people-friendly.
Meredith
is an archaeologist by trade, and occasionally
takes off during the summer to dig! She's worked in the southwestern US,
Africa and here in the great Northwest. She started walking dogs several
years ago in Seattle and she currently walks dogs full time!
We have two great dogs of our
own: Jack is an Australian Cattle Dog mix and Chico is a
Beagle & German Shepherd mix. They're great dogs and have been with us
for ten years. (That's them
in the photo enjoying a nice break during a hike in the Cascades!)
We are members of the
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and
the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS),
and we donated our last two vehicles to the Oregon
Humane Society. Thanks to organizations like these, hundreds of
thousands of dogs and cats live rich and comfortable lives.
